Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

As the only major sand dune field on the Colorado Plateau, the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is a unique geologic feature that should not be missed. Rippling arcs of rust-colored sand welcome you as you enter the Park. Contrasted by blue skies, juniper and pinion pines, and steep red cliffs, the park is a wonderful place for playing in the sand, photography, camping, and off-highway vehicle riding.

Grand Staircase Escalante Monument

The Grand Staircase became a national monument in September of 1996, at which 1.7 million acres dominates any map of southern Utah. It is unique in that it is the first monument to be administered by the Bureau of Land Management, rather than the National Park Service. The monument is a geologic sampler, with a huge variety of formations, features, and world-class paleontological sites. The Grand Staircase is a geological formation spanning eons of time and is a territory of multicolored cliffs, plateaus, mesas, buttes, pinnacles, and canyons.

Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends is a unique home and haven for animals. On any given day there are about 1,700 dogs, cats and other animals living inside the sanctuary. They came for special care from rescue groups and shelters all across the country. Many of them just need a few weeks of special care before they are ready to go to a good new home with loving families.

Western Legends Round Up

Enjoy the most exciting annual cowboy festival the city has to offer. This exciting event takes place in August of each year. Western Legends is the "Yee-Haw" of the Wild West. People flock to Kanab, Utah to take part in this exciting annual celebration. Native American dances, an Arts and Crafts Fair, visits from old time movie star cowboys, poetry recitals, good old-fashioned western food, and music brings the Wild West back to life! Little Hollywood

Southern Utah's Kane County is also known as "Utah's Little Hollywood." MGM liked Kanab so much they built a makeshift studio outside of town in the 1940s. More than 100 motion pictures have been filmed here.
     In fact, more Westerns were produced here than anywhere outside of California. John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood and a host of stars made movies in the area.
     The "Gunsmoke" TV series used the Johnson Canyon Movie Set for over 20 episodes shot between the '50s and '70s. The now-famous western town is located just east of Kanab. The set is on private property but can still be viewed from the road, or with a tour guide. Sets from "Outlaw"; and other movies can be visited for free at Frontier Movie Town.
     The Paria Canyon movie set was used in the Clint Eastwood classic "The Outlaw Josey Wales." Lake Powell was the location for "Maverick", "The Hulk", "Broken Arrow" and both versions of "Planet of the Apes." "A Monster in the Attic" was filmed in Kane County in 2007.

Greyhound Gathering

The Greyhound Gathering takes place in Kanab and is the 2nd oldest, three-day greyhound gathering in the world., This Gathering, started in 1999 celebrates greyhound love. Every activity revolves around the hounds, and the fundraising so needed to rescue more hounds. Every hound and guest participates in events from sun-up to sun-down. (Tour offered once annually)
